WILLIAM A. BURNETTE ON THE ISSUES

We’re in very trying economic times......due to the economic crisis we are
facing.....there are many issues that will have to be faced;

Providing continuing health care at affordable prices is essential........we
must find ways to give tax breaks to companies that provide health insurance to their employees...........we must find ways to provide tax breaks and incentives to those who must pay for their own health insurance and care... I will be a strong proponent of any legislation which assures affordable health care for our citizens.

Equally important to the healthcare issue are jobs......unlike my opponent
who has never had to meet payrolls, or borrow money to operate a
company.....or to make and meet budgets.......I have more than 40 years
experience of making payrolls, making budgets, borrowing money and finding a way to repay the debt. Over the years I have created hundreds and hundreds of jobs and many of them were very good paying jobs.

I will work hard to provide incentives to get companies to move jobs back
into the United States. Every company now operating in our state should be
advised that our state government will cooperate with them in bringing jobs back to America from their offshore operations. I will work with federal officials to bring a free trade zone into the Davie/Rowan area. By having a free trade zone in our area...we could bring parts and equipment from other areas of the world without duties having to be paid and then we could re-export the product to markets around the world. This would create jobs in our region of America.

The next but not the least important issue is taxation. During the coming
years all town, city, county, state and national governments will be hard hit to
find the funding to pay for the cost of running our governments. This presents a challenge that requires a business man’s background. I have had to create
budgets....manage budgets during some very tough times. I am ready to take
on the task of this challenge. We must find a way to operate our state
government ...efficiently effectively....while finding ways not to increase taxes. If we can just eliminate the waste from our state budget we can find a way not to increase taxes. I will be opposed to increasing taxes on our citizenry. I believe we can streamline our state government operations so that they provide the necessary services that we require but at the same time eliminating redundancy, overstaffing and some ill conceived expenditures.

In order to make sure I know your concerns I plan to host town meetings
twice a year whereby you can come and share your concerns. We are
planning our first town meeting in November.

My friends....we are facing economic challenges that affect all of us. I
commit to you that I will be very proactive and do all that I can to create
much needed jobs......I will work to make sure that all of us are given the
opportunity to have affordable health insurance.....and I will work to see
that our taxes are not raised.
